Aftercare is your responsibility. How your tattoo heals depends on how you follow the rules and guidelines given by your artist. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your artist at Frontier Tattoo Studio and they will be happy to help.
Once your tattoo is completed, your artist at Frontier Tattoo Studio will apply Tegaderm (Second Skin) bandage(s) to your tattoo. We recommend the bandage be worn for 2 days minimum, but it can be worn for up to 6 days maximum. (If you have any issues with the bandage not sticking or peeling, please let your artist know; they can provide further instruction or advice).
Expect some murky or cloudy build-up inside the bandage while wearing it, this is normal and nothing to worry about. You may be active or exercise while wearing the bandage, but you may experience excess build-up. This is also normal and nothing to worry about.
While wearing the bandage, you may shower as usual and continue your daily routine. We do not recommend bathing while your tattoo heals, as soaking or submerging your tattoo can disrupt the healing process.
When the bandage is ready to be removed, we recommend taking it off in the shower. For removal, slowly and gently pull the bandage away from the body, rather than peeling or ripping it off. Once the bandage is off, give it a good but gentle cleanse with non-scented soaps.
After the bandage has been removed, your tattoo will appear shiny and fresh for the first few days. After those couple of days, the tattoo will start to lightly flake for several days and appear dry. We recommend you use a non-scented lotion gently on your tattoo 3 times a day. If your artist has given you an ointment package, follow the directions given by your artist. During the dry skin stage, continue to use a non-scented lotion a couple of times daily as needed.
DON’T soak your tattoo in bath water, hot tubs, swimming pools or any body of water until the tattoo is fully healed. If this precaution is not taken, it is likely that your tattoo will have a reaction which could cause issues during the healing process.
✅ DO keep the tattoo as clean as possible.
❌ DON’T let your pets lick your fresh tattoo.
✅ DO lightly lotion your tattoo with unscented lotion.
❌ DON’T over-moisturize your tattoo.
Please note that tattoos in certain areas of the body may need longer healing times. Hands, feet, elbows, knees, etc are all areas that regularly move or have wear and tear and this can cause a longer healing time for your tattoo.
